V&V launches expert-led PR education programme for entrepreneurs

Hack Your Own PR is a 9-week media training programme designed specifically to support small Singaporean businesses and entrepreneurs

(Singapore – EMBARGO July 5, 2022) Award-winning PR consultancy V&V launches the first expert-led digital publicity education programme in Singapore. ‘Hack Your Own PR’ is a 9-week publicity short course designed for entrepreneurs and communicators who want to learn how to do their own PR without the large fees associated with agency retainers.

The first of its kind on the red dot, V&V’s founder and publicist, Lynda Williams, will teach businesses how to navigate the media landscape and win their own headlines with the first intake kicking off in September. Over nine weeks, participants will learn how the media works, what journalists are looking for and how to write and pitch a story.

On launching the programme into Singapore, Williams says, “The Singapore business landscape has a rich and diverse community of entrepreneurs and small businesses who now more than ever need affordable PR skills to market themselves effectively. Small businesses were hit hard during the pandemic and are now enduring a second wave of adversity with inflation and the rising costs of goods, services and labour. I am confident that Hack Your Own PR is the perfect support for this sorely under-serviced segment of clever innovators. I know they’ve got incredible stories, and most don’t have the dollars required for a traditional PR retainer.”

The course will offer live digital classrooms for PR theory and private strategy sessions led by Williams, as well as ‘meet the press’ sessions with leading journalists and news presenters including:

– Singapore destination guide, Honeycombers’ editor, Benita Lee

– Former Editor-in-Chief of Cosmopolitan, freelance journalist across Elle, Grazia, Glamour and Vogue Brides, Jo Upcraft

– Christian Barker, luxury lifestyle freelance contributor to Forbes Asia, Travel + Leisure, Robb Report, the Financial Times, Esquire, Tatler, GQ, CNA, CNBC and SCMP.

With hands-on learning from Williams and guidance from an experienced line-up of supportive journalists, students will become equipped to manage their own media appearances with confidence.

Hack Your Own PR has successfully run in Australia for 3 years led by publicist and PR educator, Odette Barry, who has taught hundreds of small businesses who regularly appear in Australian and global media headlines. In this joint partnership, Williams and Barry have worked closely to adapt and localise the curriculum to meet the nuances of both Singaporean businesses and the media landscape.

Barry says, “I spent months analysing who would be the best Singapore-based partner for Hack Your Own PR. I approached several media outlets to understand who were the best PRs pitching stories to their platforms, and spoke with some of the best agencies, and everyone recommended Lynda. To have access to the knowledge of a publicist of Lynda’s calibre is such a coup for the Singapore entrepreneurial community – she’s clever, worked with the best brands and top journalists and this is going to translate into a first-class learning experience.”
