Mutant announces promotions as it eyes wider regional expansion
SINGAPORE, 10 February 2022 — Mutant today announced new roles for four of its leaders, including the promotion of Matthew de Bakker to Country Manager for Singapore.
De Bakker is an experienced agency leader who has led Mutant’s PR business in Singapore since 2017. During his time as head of PR, he helped add a string of big brands and well-funded startups to the agency’s client roster, including Singapore Sports Hub, Experian APAC, Disney, and Ula, amongst others.
Lina Marican has been named Regional Managing Director, and will be responsible for launching and scaling Mutant in new and existing markets in Southeast Asia. Under Marican, who was previously Managing Director, Mutant has more than tripled its revenue and expanded its headcount to over 30 across its Singapore and Malaysia offices.
Byravee Iyer and Rebecca Lewis step into the newly created roles of Head of Content and Brand Strategy Director, respectively, as Mutant seeks to expand its fast-growing Content and Brand offerings.
In 2021, the agency recorded a 29.5% growth in revenue, driven in part by its Malaysia business, which grew 50% in 2021, under Country Manager Archana Menon. Strategic public relations and content grew organically, on top of demand for Mutant’s social media and brand services.
Commenting on the appointments, Mutant’s CEO Joseph Barratt said, “As we head into our 10th anniversary, we have exciting plans to set-up offices in new markets, with Indonesia and the Philippines on our horizon. I am confident that Mutant’s leadership team will continue to build on our foundation of being communications partners that drive business results for our clients.”
