From the very beginning, Murdoch University – named after the renowned essayist and academic Sir Walter Murdoch – dared to be different. The University’s first Vice Chancellor Professor Stephen Griew imagined a fresh and socially relevant approach to learning; a university free from tradition where education is available to “all people with the ability and inclination, regardless of their age or where they live”.
In our 50th year, we are celebrating all that makes Murdoch unique by sharing the stories about our global impact through research and innovation, teaching and learning and community engagement. In celebrating our past, Murdoch University is also looking firmly to the brighter future we want to help shape for future generations with a reinvigorated focus on our founding commitment to Sustainability; Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and First Nations communities.
